What's the Fall Reading Series?

Also known as the "Fall Authors Series," the FRS presents a season of events celebrating literature and honoring the inspiration to write. In addition to reading and book-signings showcasing nationally recognized award-winning authors, annual events include the Celebration of Banned Books and Banned Persons (typically held during National Banned Books Week), the Lester Bangs Memorial Reading in October, and the end-of-semester New Voices student reading honoring the Program's stand-out student writers. Events are sponsored by the Creative Writing Program of Grossmont College, as well as a variety of other campus agencies and programs.

Visit the FALL READINGS SERIES for more info about the authors and events coming this fall, or to visit an archive of past seasons.

What's the Literary Art Festival?

The proud tradition of annual Literary Arts Festival brings the world of contemporary literature and living writers, free of charge, to the Grossmont College campus and its greater community.  The Festival is sponsored by the Creative Writing Program and English Department of Grossmont College, with support from the Division of English and Social/Behavioral Sciences Division. Each year, a diverse range of established and respected authors from around the country help us showcase a celebration of literature, readings, and the creative writing process.  Events include readings and performances, lectures, workshops, writing competitions, book signings, and Master Classes in which students of the Creative Writing Program are given the opportunity to submit their work and be selected for an intensive workshop with a renowned author.  Student Readings, Workshops, Drama Writers' Showcase, Open Mic performances, and other events originating from our campus and community are featured alongside celebrated and award-winning guest writers.

Below are some of the writers and poets who have headlined our Festivals, but we encourage you to visit our LITERARY ARTS FESTIVAL website and archive to find out more about our latest and past LAFs.

What's the Creative WRITE-A-THON?

The Creative WRITE-A-THON is a day-long fundraising event of writing activities that empowers Grossmont College’s writing community and helps to bring critically acclaimed and internationally recognized authors to the Literary Arts Festival.  Participants and their sponsors pledge amounts based on hours spent at the event, but lump-sum donations are also accepted.  (This event is not held annually.)

How do I support these projects?
Give to the Foundation Creative Writing Fund
A tax deductible contribution to The FGCC's Creative Writing Fund will help the Creative Writing Program promote literary arts through continued sponsorship of opportunities and events like the Literary Arts Festival.
