Cohn named Athlete of the Week

(3/13/12) Grossmont College swimmer Michael Cohn and San Diego Mesa track & field athlete Brandon Ford are the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Men's Athletes of the.

Cohn, a freshman who was home, dominated the Chaffey Invitational as the Griffins won the team championship, scoring 840 points to 795 for runner-up Palomar in a 10-team field. Riverside Community College, coming off an upset win over four-time defending state champion Orange Coast, was a distant third.

Cohn was responsible for 140 of Grossmont's points as he won five individual events and was part of first-place finishes in four relays. Cohn won the 500-yard freestyle in 45.05, the 100 butterfly in 54.35, the 200 freestyle in 1:47.88, the 100 backstroke in 54.16 and the 200 backstroke in 2:00.72 in the two-day meet.

He led off Grossmont's winning 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay and 400 relay teams and swam the third leg on the Griffins' first-place 400 free relay team.
