Part TIme Faculty Committee President Elections Spring 2017

Please see below our Candidates and their statements

Diane Finch-Payne

I have been an Adjunct Instructor at Grossmont College since 2007. In addition, I worked at several sites for San Diego Community College District in the late 80’s and early 90’s. My volunteer experience includes professional and community organizations in several fields. Currently, I volunteer with the Community Services Department of the City of La Mesa, and on a committee to looking to forge a Medical Terminology articulation agreement between Grossmont College and the Health Occupations Center in Santee. Since retiring from my “day job,” I’ve wanted to become more involved at Grossmont College. As Part-time Faculty Officer with the Academic Senate, I hope to contribute substantially to faculty and student success.

Richard Unis

My interest in the part-time faculty officer position comes from 10 years of teaching sociology part-time at Grossmont. I have listened to many stories and have myself encountered certain challenges unique to part-time faculty, which is why I currently serve as my division rep to the (ASPTFC) Academic Senate Part-Time Faculty Committee. I would like to deepen my involvement in governance at the school as a strong advocate for part-time faculty. Part-time faculty makeup roughly 2/3 of our teaching community, so it is crucial that we continue to learn and adapt to the needs of our part-time faculty as a means to have an even more effective teaching/learning institution at many levels. I am also currently doing committee work with the AFT Union and have been involved in various student and faculty led organizations throughout the years. I have enjoyed contributing to the ASPTFC as a rep and hope to become further involved on the ASPTFC and at Grossmont as the part-time senate officer. Thanks for your time and consideration!

Andre Andersen

My name is Andre Andersen and I currently teach in the Computer Science Information (CSIS) department, formerly in the Business Office Technology (BOT) department. I also teach at other districts and colleges in San Diego and Oceanside. I have been teaching for Grossmont College for about 13 years and have enjoyed working with the students, staff (faculty and classified) and the administration. I am interested in serving as the Part-Time Faculty Officer, because I want to play a more active role in resolving the issues involving part-time faculty at Grossmont and work towards making our college the best it can be for us all. Making the educational experience of our amazing students here at Grossmont College is my goal and if elected I will keep that fundamental focus in mind when contributing my ideas. I am passionate, dependable and focused on what needs to be done. I look forward to being part of the team and contributing my skills and time towards the greater good.

 Sincerely,  Andre Andersen
