ASL-English Interpreter Handbook

Grossmont College Accessibility Resource Center (A.R.C.) Mission Statement:

 

"We are committed to empowering people with disabilities with strategies for life-long learning as we create a partnership with our students in their pursuit of academic excellence and personal enrichment."


The A.R.C. department located at Grossmont College has been established to accommodate the academic and support needs of students with disabilities, as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the American with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008. The A.R.C. offers eligible students access to a variety of specialized support services and assistive equipment. These services are intended to accommodate students with disabilities in regular college programs and activities.

As an ASL interpreter employed with the A.R.C., you will become acquainted with Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District (GCCCD), and the many resources available to Deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) students. The A.R.C. provides a wide range of of assistance to students with disabilities seeking higher education such as, equipment loans, note-taking assistance, Real-time Captioning (RTC), test taking accommodations, resources to Access Print, Sign Language Interpreters, and adapted exercise science classes.

The A.R.C. office hours are Mondays & Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Summer office hours are Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. / closed Fridays.

The policies and procedures of this handbook are for American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters working for GCCCD. In order to provide the best quality interpreting services, this handbook serves as a guideline.
