Biodiversity and Biological Collections Web Server

This Web site provides a gateway to hundreds of sites of interest to organismic biologists and systematists.  These sites originate from universities, museums, and professional societies and are truly worldwide in scope.  Links are categorized by field of interest (Mycology and Microbiology), type of database (Biologist Directories and Publications), or institution (Natural History Museums). 

Biology Project

Faculty and staff at the University of Arizona have developed an interactive online resource for learning biology based on an entry-level biology course for use by high school and college-level students.  The sites are divided into seven subject areas: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Human Biology, Mendelian Genetics, Immunology, and Molecular Biology.  Within each section there are problem sets, tutorials, activities, and links to related Internet resources.   Some modules are available in Spanish.


High resolution electron microscopy and animations demonstrate the mechanics of HIV infection, allergy and mite interactions, bacteriophages, how antibodies are made, bacterial motility, ulcer-causing bacteria, how lymphocytes kill infected or tumor cells, etc.  Video clips require QuickTime.

The Tree of Life Web Project

The Tree of Life Web Project (ToL) is a collaborative effort of biologists and nature enthusiasts from around the world. On more than 10,000 World Wide Web pages, the project provides information about biodiversity, the characteristics of different groups of organisms, and their evolutionary history (phylogeny).
