***TEMPORARY APPLICATION PROCESS***

Due to COVID-19 Precautions campus is currently closed to students and visitors.  To apply to the Orthopedic Tech Program during this time, we ask that you email your application packet to: denise.gilbert@gcccd.edu.

Please note, only complete application packets will be accepted. Please review the application process detailed below.

Official transcripts will need to be delivered in person once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and students/visitors are allowed back on campus.**ONCE YOUR APPLICATION IS VERIFIED TO BE COMPLETE YOU WILL BE PLACED ON THE ORTHO TECH PROGRAM WAITLIST**



In order to apply to the Orthopedic Technology Program at Grossmont College, prospective students must complete the following requirements:

  • Download, review, and complete the Orthopedic Technology Program APPLICATION
  • Complete the required prerequisite of Human Anatomy (BIO 140) or Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO 144) OR equivalent if taken at another college. The course must include a lab and be completed with a letter grade "C" or higher. If you are unsure if a course you took at another college will be accepted as an equivalent, please contact our office with the course description for evaluation.
  • Download, review, and complete (using the Grossmont College Health Professions Immunization Requirements Form) all required Hospital/Healthcare Agency immunizations and/or tests, including:
    • Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) - 2 vaccinations and/or positive test for immunity.
    • Hepatitis B (Hep B) - 3 vaccinations or a positive quantitative test for immunity. *The Hepatitis B series, if taken on schedule, will take approximately 7 months to complete with immunity testing. Please plan accordingly. The test for immunity will be required when accepted into the program.
    • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Accellular Pertussis (Tdap)- 1 vaccine given within the past 10 years.
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)- 2 vaccinations and/or positive test for immunity.

Your completed Application Packet must include the following:

  1. A completed Orthopedic Technology application
  2. A sealed, official transcript for the required prerequisite.  If the course was taken at GCCCD, you do not need to include official transcripts as the Orthopedic Technology Program office will obtain the transcript for you.
  3. A copy of your high school diploma, equivalent, or higher degree. 
  4. A completed Immunization Requirements Form showing proof of completion of all required immunizations/tests listed above and a copy of any supporting documentation.

Applications must be submitted in person to the Orthopedic Technology Program Office unless residing outside of San Diego County.

 MUST READ!! ACCEPTABLE PREREQUISITES FOR ORTHOPEDIC TECH

 To submit an application to the Orthopedic Technology progtam, one of the following two courses must be completed with a 'C' grade or higher prior to submitting an application.

  • BIO 140 (Human Anatomy) or
  • BIO 144 (Anatomy & Physiology I) or equivalent.

Students wishing to apply to the Orthopedic Technology Program must provide proof of the following immunizations and /or tests at time of application;

  1. MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)- series of 2 vaccinations or seropositivity
  2. Hepatitis B - series of 3 vaccinations or HBsAb Quantitative blood test for
    seropositivity
    A negative (non-immune) seropositivity test result must include a booster or repeat of series, and a re-test for seropositivity 30 days following the booster. ( Students are not eligible to decline without a physician's statement documenting an adverse reaction to HepB or a statement from their pastor indicating refusal for religious reasons).  If applying with completed vaccinations only, a test for seropositivity will be required if accepted into the program.
  3. Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria Acellular Pertussis) -  within 10 years of applying
Varicella - series of 2 vaccinations or seropositivity.
