Thomas Armstrong joined Grossmont College as the new Associate Dean of Athletics in August 2016, after serving as the Associate Dean of Student Services and Athletics at Barstow Community College.
He has a strong depth and breadth of experiences within athletics, with almost 20 years in service as an administrator, faculty, softball and football program coach, Title IX investigator, and also as the National Chair for the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Rules and Regulations Committee.
Armstrong holds a BS in Kinesiology from Humboldt State University, Graduate Studies Certification in Kinesiology and Educational Administration from the University of North Dakota, and a MA in Education with an emphasis in Physical Education and Health from Western Oregon University.
Armstrong has a strong student-first philosophy, and possesses a keen understanding of the student athlete and strategies to ensure their retention, persistence, engagement in sport, and ultimately the students’ success both on and off of the field. He embodies the Grossmont College mission statement of “Changing lives through education” through his philosophy and successful practice.
Armstrong is a Grossmont College alum, as well as his wife who is a CVT graduate.
