Letter to D.E. Faculty

All Distance Education courses are included in a pilot program that Grossmont College is conducting at this time. I've put together the following list in an effort to address some common questions I've been asked.
  • As you know, the newest AFT contract dictates that student evaluations will be conducted in every class section for all faculty, as soon as the parties can implement a practical system for doing so. (AFT 5.3.3.1)
  • In order to implement such a practice a joint effort task force was created between Grossmont College and Cuyamaca College.
  • We researched and studied numerous outside vendors and in-house solutions to obtain our needs.
  • We discussed the pilot with AFT and they were supportive of the pilot rollout.
  • Grossmont College chose to contract with EvaluationKit.com for the 2018 academic year.
  • An announcement was made in Academic Senate alerting all to the upcoming pilot.
  • We ran a small pilot of distance education class evaluations. The response rate we received was positive.
  • In 2019 Cuyamaca College joined us in piloting their distance education classes.
  • Grossmont College chose to go live with Evaluationkit.com for all evaluees teaching one or more distance education classes. We chose to run a pilot program simultaneously for all distance education classes that were not being evaluated in a contractual cycle.
  • We are only evaluating (DINT) classes that are fully online. No hybrid (D49/D51) classes are being included in this semester’s pilot.
  • Unless a faculty member is under contractual evaluation the data is not collected. The evaluation is not shared with your Dean, Chair, or Human Resources. The only thing we are collecting is statistical data referencing response rates.
  • Our response rates have increased from under 2% using our old method of collection to now over 80% in many cases.

If any faculty members have further concerns, please feel free to contact me. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.
