Probation

Probation is to be taken seriously. If you find yourself in either of these situations, please contact the Counseling Center during the semester to make an appointment to discuss your academic progress. The following is an explanation of what Probation  means, and how to get reinstated should you find yourself dismissed.

Important questions to ask a counselor:

  1. What kind of probation am I on?
  2. How will that affect my current class schedule?
  3. How will this affect my financial aid?
  4. What can happen if I'm not successful this semester?
  5. What personal or academic strategies should I incorporate in my life?
  6. What resources at Grossmont College can help me become successful?
  7. What's the best way to get off academic / progress probation?

Probation

  1. Academic Probation

Any student who has attempted a minimum of 12-semester units and whose cumulative college grade point average falls below 2.0 in courses receiving letter grades for work attempted at a college within the district shall be placed on academic probation at the college where the units were attempted.

  2. Lack-of-Progress Probation

Any student who has enrolled in a cumulative total of at least 12-semester units at a college in the district shall be placed on probation when the student's cumulative units indicate 50 percent or more units of W, I, and/or NP at the college where the units were attempted.

  3. Removal from Probation

    1. Any student placed on academic probation shall be removed from probation when the cumulative grade point average at the college where the student has been on probation has improved to 2.0.

    2. Any student placed on lack-of-progress probation shall be removed from probation when the cumulative units of W, I, or NP recorded at the college where the student has been on probation are less than 50 percent of the total units attempted.

We encourage dismissed students to attend a "Get back on track workshop."
