Applying to the CVT Program

Temporary Application Process

Due to COVID-19 Precautions campus is currently closed to students and visitors.  To apply to the CVT Program during this time, we ask that you email your application packet to: denise.gilbert@gcccd.edu.

Only complete application packets will be accepted. Please review the application process detailed below.

Official transcripts will need to be delivered in person once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Cardiovascular Technology is a highly technical component of the Allied Health field. It is desirable that the student enter the Program with a strong foundation in English language skills, mathematics, and related sciences. Because of the increasing number of patients who speak a language other than English, a second-language proficiency is an asset.


Application Procedure

The Cardiovascular Technology Program at Grossmont College accepts approximately 40 students each year as dictated by staffing, laboratory and instrumentation availability, and the number of clinical sites available for student assignments during the second year of training.

For applicants who are interested in learning more about the CVT Program, the Program Coordinator holds CVT Program Preview Meetings on the 1st Friday of each month of the Academic calendar at 9:00 AM in Building 34, room to be determined. Prospective applicants are encouraged (although not required) to attend for information on prerequisites, structure of the Program, employment opportunities and career paths. Email the CVT Office @ grossmontCVT.Info@gcccd.edu if you would like to attend; include the following information. Subject Program Preview, Last Name, First Name, phone number. The CVT office will email you the Program Preview information.

For information on general education requirements or to develop an educational plan, contact the Counseling Department at 619-644-7208 for an appointment with a Counselor or to find out more about walk-in services.

To apply for admission to the Cardiovascular Technology Program the following steps must be taken:

  • Complete the prerequisite courses, BIO 140 & 141, 141L OR BIO 144 & 145 and Chemistry 115.  These courses must be completed, with a “C” or higher, before an applicant can submit an application and be added to the waitlist.
  • You must turn in official transcripts from the college you completed your prerequisite courses, unless it is Grossmont-Cuyamaca College (we can pull your transcripts for you).  If you took the prerequisite courses outside of GCCCD, and the college is not listed on the Equivalency Chart, you must submit official transcripts and course descriptions to the CVT office with your application.
  • Foreign transcripts:  Beginning July 2017, Grossmont College accepts the evaluations of foreign transcripts from only those agencies that are current members of NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluations Services). For a current list of agencies visit: www.naces.org.

  • It is recommended that applicants obtain an extra set of sealed official transcripts by mail sent to their personal address.  Transcripts must remain UNOPENED.  When you get invited into the program, and accept a seat, it is at that time you will apply to the college and you will be required to submit official transcripts from all of your colleges to admissions and records. 
  • In addition, for each pre-requisite not listed on the Equivalency Grid of San Diego Area Community College, please include a copy of the course description copied out the appropriate College Catalog (print or online version). 
  • Proof of completion of High School Diploma, GED, or a higher degree.
  •  Proof of immunizations. Click Here for an immunization sheet.  Immunizations as follows:  MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)- series of 2 vaccination or seropositivity blood test with results
    Hepatitis B- series of 3 vaccinations and test for seropositivity with results, Quantitative (QT) blood test only
          *negative seropositivity must include a booster or repeat of the series and           re-test.
          *approximate time period of 7-8 months to complete, if you have no proof           of Hep B or have not started Hep B series
          *accelerated versions of the Hep B series is not accepted.
          *students are not eligible to decline the series without a physician's               statement documenting an adverse reaction or a statement from their                pastor indicating refusal for religious reasons
    Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis)- given 2005 or after - a Td booster is required 10 years after your Tdap
    Varicella (Chickenpox)- series of 2 vaccinations or seropositivity
  • Applications for the CVT Program are available online only: 
    Application for Admission Form. 
  • The completed application packet must be hand delivered to the CVT desk (Bldg. 34-256).  If you live outside of San Diego County you may mail your completed application packet.  If sending by mail, it is important that you send it to the Attention of the Cardiovascular Technology Program Grossmont College, 8800 Grossmont College Drive, El Cajon, CA 92020-1799
  • Applications are accepted and reviewed once you have submitted a COMPLETE application package. 
  • Applicants are added to the wait list on a "first-come, first-served" basis after prerequisite courses are completed and a COMPLETE application package, including transcripts and course descriptions (if applicable) are received in the CVT office.
  • Once you are invited into the program you will then need to turn in official transcripts for all college credit earned.  You will submit this full official set to Grossmont College admissions & records upon applying to the college.  Please have your transcripts mailed directly to your home and not Grossmont College. 

While on the waitlist it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all information received by the Cardiovascular Technology Office is correct and kept up to date.



 Effective January 01, 2012

If you have accepted a seat into any other Grossmont College Health Professions Program, you will be ineligible to receive an invitation to the Cardiovascular Technology Program. Students wishing to apply to the Cardiovascular Technology Program must apply for an entry date which does not conflict with the completion of the Health Professions Program you are currently enrolled in.
