Background and Bio

Armenian-American George Kirazian, Jr. completed his bachelor’s degree in English Composition and Literature at New York University, with minors in Music and German. Kirazian immediately re-entered New York University for graduate studies in English Language and Literature. After earning his Master’s degree in 1962, the now married Kirazian settled in San Diego and joined the faculty of the recently opened Grossmont Junior College in El Cajon.

In his first semester at Grossmont, Kirazian’s teaching schedule included an English Fundamentals course, Introduction to Literature, and five different sections of basic and advanced reading improvement courses. With the on-and-off-again additions of Introduction to College Writing and Reading and Composition, this repertoire of courses and this pace of teaching would become George’s signature for the remainder of his forty plus years as an educator.

Kirazian served as the Grossmont College English Department’s Chair from 1966 to 1967, during which time he hired ten new faculty to the English Department (three of which did not make it to tenure and three others that would go on to become chairs of the Deartment, themselves). By 1972, George Kirazian's model work ethic and contributions to the Department lead to him being awarded the Outstanding Educators of America.

Even after retiring from full-time teaching in 1985, Kirazian continued to teach part-time across several college districts and started his own business for writing and language interpretation services. During the 1980's, he was also hard at work composing a new version of the Armenian Badarak, The Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and, in 1991, released it on compact disc to favorable reviews. Additionally, in 1994, the first edition of his self-help writing textbook, Easy Writing: A Practical Guide For Business Professionals, hit the presses and has since gone into a digital edition with on-line.
