Sleeve Notes and Other Music Ephemera

On occasion, record companies and other outside agencies (such as music festivals) would enlist Lester Bangs to write notes, essays, and ephemera. Some were complex, lengthy personal narrative essays bearing Bangs's signature gonzo style, while others were short, straightforward commentaries. Some, in fact, were posthumously excerpted for inclusion on album covers, liner notes, music programs, special reissues, and other promotional materials.
In this wing of the Special Collections, you'll find transcriptions of Lester Bangs album notes that, until now, were not available on-line. For sleeve notes that have already been adequately transcribed and made available on-line elsewhere, or whose copyright has been protected by subscription services, the bibliography below provides courtesy links instead to those authors.
A more comprehensive list of ephemera and album notes written by Bangs is included in the "Reference Desk" area of this website. (See "By Bangs.")
If you can contribute in any way to this collection, or can help the curators obtain other transcripts for this Archive, please contact the management.
