The goal of this Archive is to advance scholarship and enquiry into the life, music, and literature of Lester Bangs. Consequently, any source—prose, media, or digital—selected for this page must demonstrate one or more of the following criteria:
Also a factor is the degree to which Lester Bangs is the focus of discussion in these sources, directly or indirectly. Sources merely mentioning or quoting Bangs that do little to advance research and inquiry have been omitted from this selected bibliography, even though they may be plentiful. This criterion is especially important to the selection of blogs appearing on this page, which are vetted either for their informed perspective or for the relevant authority of their bloggers. "Relevant topics" include Punk and Proto-Punk, Heavy Metal, No Wave, rock music, and other topics of interest pertaining to the cultural and historical milieu in which Lester Bangs wrote. The resulting bibliography has been organized into the following categories:
All images used on this page are the property and copyright of their respective owners, unless otherwise specified. Citations are in MLA style. Please report bibliographic additions, and errors to the Archive management.
Since the mid 1980s, the meaning of the term "bibliographic" has increasingly broadened to include electronic resources of every variety. Even print resources published in the pre-digital era are now being digitized for electronic access. A large number of the sources listed on this and other bibliographies in the Lester Bangs Archive are already available on-line. However, the virtual medium is not always a fixed medium, and, in particular, the addresses of on-line sources change or disappear altogether. Therefore, in order to avoid repeated updating for broken links on these pages, they have been intentionally omitted so that users can look for these titles on their own. However, sources known to be available on the internet have been identified as such in their citations.
