Featherstone honored by PCC

Grossmont men's volleyball coach, Fred Featherstone, has been named the 2006-2007 Pacific Coast Conference Coach of the Year for all sports. The honor is decided by the conference athletic directors and commissioner.

Featherstone led the Griffins to an overall record of 13-5 in '07 and their 13th Southern California Regional/State playoff berth since 1990.

The Griffin team, numbering 8 total players at season end, finished the campaign with a tough three game loss at L.A. Pierce. The score was 16-30, 34-36, 32-34.

The Griffs finished the season with a 9-3 Pacific Coast Conference record, just one victory out of first place.

Five Griffins were selected to the All-PCC squad following Grossmont's successful 2007 campaign. Armando and Jimmy Lopez were selected to the First Team, while Travis Lee, Tyler Shielke, and Andy Frontz were Second Team honorees. Andy Frontz is heading to Lewis University in Chicago, Illinois on a scholarship. Dane Jensen and Tyler Shielke are going to Cal State Northridge to continue their volleyball careers.
