Coaches

Head Coach - Travis Lee

  • 2012 PCAC Coach of the Year

Travis Lee took over the helm at Grossmont in the 2012 season.

Lee was groomed for the head coaching duties by serving as co-head coach in 2011 with Hall-of-Famer Fred Featherstone.

Lee lead the Griffin's to their best finish in school history in 2012 falling in the California State Finals.

Coach Lee has both coaching and player credibility.

Recruited to play for Grossmont College by Featherstone in 2006 and 2007, Coach Lee went on to lead his college team to one of the best regular season records in the program's history. Coach Lee played for the Griffins in '06 and '07 and earned All-Pacific Coast Conference honors as an outside hitter. Lee came to Grossmont College from Grossmont High School where he was All-Grossmont League in 2005.

In '07, Lee was selected Most Valuable Player for the Griffins. Coach Lee has also earned his AAA beach volleyball rating. Travis has coached for Seaside Volleyball Club and co-founded Shorebreak VBC while continuing the position as Director of Players for Shorebreak.

As a respected young coach in the county, Travis continues to work with Grossmont's Men's Volleyball program bringing knowledge, enthusiasm and passion to the gym every day all while maintaining a full time teaching position at Flying Hills Elementary School in El Cajon.

ASSISTANT COACH - JIMMY LOPEZ

In 2011, former Griffin setter Jimmy Lopez begins his fourth season as a Griffin assistant coach. Selected to the Orange Empire Conference First Team in '06, Jimmy backed that up in '07 with a First Team All-Pacific Coast Conference spot.

Jimmy brings a lot of adult maturity to the assistant's position. Aside from an illustrious playing career as an international setter, Jimmy has also coached at Sweetwater High School ('03), Coronado High School ('04), and Monte Vista High School ('05). Jimmy coached for Seaside VBC, as well, in '06, '07, '08, and '09.

Recently, Jimmy competed with Mexico at the Norceca's and as a player in his native country, Mexico. Jimmy's teams-- a junior high school team--won two National Club Team Championships in Colima, Mexico in '93 and an Adult Open Championship in '01 in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Jimmy has played extensively for the famous Mikaza and Ensenada Spikers International Club Teams and won the prestigious Estero Beach Doubles Tournament in '05. Jimmy is a AAA beach player. At Grossmont, Jimmy was chosen team MVP by his teammates in both '06 and '07.
