This Page IS History!

Why study history?

There are several very good reasons. History helps people to understand the relationships between past and present. History helps people to understand their world.

Want a more entertaining reason? History is the ultimate drama! History is a story of love, hate, war, compassion, creation, discovery, lust, heroes and villains. In other words, history teaches us about issues which remain important today. Best of all, we can look at the achievements and mistakes of others, and learn form them to improve our own lives.

As an individual, you are the sum total of all your experiences. Learn to appreciate the connection of the past to the present. History is inescapable, so you may as well study it. Learn history, don't repeat it!

Classroom philosophy and expectations

I enjoy history and I love teaching it. In my classes, students are exposed to history in different ways through a variety of assignments. Apart from simply learning names and dates, students are encouraged to express their knowledge and opinions in a variety of ways.

Assignments include writing assignments, book and movie reviews, class presentations, historical research, exams, and daily homework assignments. Good attendance and class participation are very important.

My classes are for mature students who wish to examine significant historical issues. If you are willing to put forth a serious effort, I am confident that your effort will yield a satisfying result.
