Get involved and become an active Griffin through the Via Rápida First Year Experience (VR FYE) Program. The program will be accepting a cohort of up to 1,000 First-Time to College students for the 2020-2021 academic year. Students can expect to receive ongoing social and academic support throughout their first year. The program promotes academic achievement, social integration and personal growth. Participating students will be well connected to faculty, staff and other Griffin students.
The VR FYE program launched in fall 2018 with over 200 student participants who emerged from over 60 different high schools and charter schools. Please review our newsletters for monthly updates.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education under the Office of Postsecondary Education, the Title V Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) grant is composed of five supporting components: (1) Outreach; (2) Strengthening Placement; (3) Accelerated Math and English efforts; (4) First Year Experience Program; and (5) Professional Development. At Grossmont College, the HSI Title V grant has developed the Via Rápida First Year Experience (VR FYE) Program. The program is inclusive of all first-time freshmen that have submitted the FAFSA or DREAM applcation and has a focus on Hispanic and low-income (HLI) student populations, providing academic and social support through an array of activities and services. Aligned with the institutions' strategic plan, Via Rápida, through its goals and objectives works to enhance the encompassing college experience for HLI students and increasing college enrollment, retention, persistence and completion.
