Always conform, conform, conform. “What will people think?” has become a common cliche but I say f**k that. It’s not important what even your very best friends think. You, yourself, the individual mind, not governed by someone else’s opinions. Don’t be afraid by someone else’s opinions. Don’t be afraid of criticism. That’s a great modern American weakness, the fear of criticism. Stand up to it, fight it, and if you’re proved right then you learn why somebody makes fun of your individuality, and if you’re proved wrong, then make yourself right, and if it’s impossible to say whether it’s right or wrong, then be liberal, and respect someone else’s opinion while holding your own. But if you know you’re right and even your best friend criticises, you and tell you you’re wrong, don’t make yourself a hypocrite to him, just to make it easy. Of all people to give in and be hypocritical with! Save your hypocrisy for [crossed through] for the ignorant bigots who refuse to listen to reason. The firmest freindships [sic] (among the intelligent) are founded on complete honesty.

          We will never change the world, but turn one stupid conformist into a creative individual is an accomplishment worth spilling your guts on the ground for s….
