Professional Development

Grossmont College through the Office of Professional Development strives to provide comprehensive professional learning opportunities for the faculty, staff, and administrators of the college. Programing is driven by formal college-wide assessments and directly supports the college's strategic priorities and mission. The work of Professional Development is informed and supported through the college's Professional Development Committee, a college-wide governance committee, the Faculty Professional Development Committee, an Academic Senate Committee, and the Classified Professional Development Committee, giving voice to our Classified Professionals needs. Through this multi-faceted approach Grossmont College is able to support professional learning for faculty, staff and administrators.

Fall 2020 Flex Week Workshop Submission Information
The Faculty Professional Development Committee, in collaboration with the

Office of Professional Development, is seeking session presenters for Fall 2020 Flex Week:

Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14, 2020
***The Deadline for Spring FLEX Week Proposals June 30th ***

In light of the current challenges we are facing, we are looking forward to being back on campus together where we know we thrive as a college. We are still looking to faculty, classified professionals, administrators and students in preparation for Fall 2020 FLEX Week – for which the California Community College’s FLEX Calendar Program has designated time, space, and resources “to participate in development activities that are related to “staff, student, and instructional improvement” (Title 5, Section 55724).
OUR MANTRA: LESS IS MORE!
Based on feedback we have received and analysis of past FLEX Week session attendance, we are aiming to reduce the number of overlapping sessions; maximize individual session attendance and dialogue among faculty, classified professionals, administrators and students; and offer sessions that most directly support our college’s strategic goals of outreach, engagement, and retention. To that end, we are planning to select 8-12 session proposals.
TYPES OF WORKSHOPS WE ARE SEEKING
We are seeking sessions that foster, stimulate reflection on, provide a model of, underscore, or embody holistic student success.* Sessions can take the form of workshops, GIFTS panels, round table discussions, digital poster sessions, labs, etc. Consider collaborating with a colleague or two to propose a workshop! On the off chance that we are still not back on campus by FLEX Week, we will challenge you to think outside of the box and find a way to create a workshop that COULD be taught via Zoom or online in some way, if need be. How has this experience informed your relationship to Holistic Student Success? This is a great opportunity to be creative.
*Holistic student success looks at how we support students throughout their educational experience, from intake with Student Services, through academic learning and support, to wraparound services that support pursuit of students’ goals.
We look forward to receiving and reviewing your proposals!
