ASL-English Interpreter Handbook

Interpreter Absences

In the event you need to be absent, please call or text the Interpreter Coordinator's cell phone.  Keep in mind that early morning classes require time to find a sub. Please call by 6:30 a.m. for any 8:00 a.m. or earlier classes.

  • Substitute Interpreter: For known absences in advance, please notify the Interpreter Coordinator by email. Consistency of interpreting services is very important for students. Please arrange personal appointments outside your work schedule, if possible.
  • Sub Suggestions Welcome. Do not make arrangements for a sub on your own. All work must be authorized by the Interpreter Coordinator.
  • Interpreter Team No-Show: Text or call the Interpreter Coordinator if your interpreter-team does not show. If the  Interpreter Coordinator does not respond, please inform the DHH student that you will need to step out for a 15 minute break. Please use judgement and do not injure yourself.
  • Excessive Interpreter Absences: If an interpreter has excessive absences, regardless of the reasons or even if prior notice is given each time, the Interpreter Coordinator has the authority to replace the interpreter to keep continuity of interpreting services for DHH students.
