ASL-English Interpreter Handbook

Student Absences

As per A.R.C. policy, DHH students are required to give a 24-hour notice when absent from class. If a student does not show up for class, interpreters are required to wait a minimum of 20 minutes. If the class assignment is more than 2 hours, please wait 30 minutes.

Please call/text the Interpreter Coordinator's cell phone to find out if needed elsewhere. If the Coordinator does not answer, please leave a message (preferably by text) and be accessible by cell for at least 10 minutes for a response back.

Interpreters must communicate availability and be ready to be reassigned to another class unless otherwise dismissed by the Interpreter Coordinator. If you are offered a replacement assignment and decline to work, then only the time spent waiting will be paid.

If the student calls / texts the interpreter directly about being absent, please communicate with the Interpreter Coordinator about this absence immediately.

Interpreters will be paid for all classes or assignments that are canceled with less than 24 hours notice.
