Time Has Come Today [unpublished]
WRITING CREDITS:
Lester Bangs[1]
You can laugh.
You can joke.
You can blow it up in smoke
I delight
[more than any of your kind of coke?]
But the time has come today,
time has come today,
time has come today.
You can cry.
You can sigh.
You can buy a lullaby.
Make like Captain Bligh,[2]
or sit around wonderin' why.
But the time has come today,
time has come today,
time has come today.
I've been crushed
by tumblin' tide.
I've been caught
and taken—taken for a ride.
Lost my love
and sweated out regrets
but I'm [dying?]
that give only what you get.
That's why I say
that the time
is come
today
You can take it out of the cart,
try feeling it in your heart.
[?] it some of it, too.
Yeah, the time has come today,
time has come today,
time has come today.

ABOUT THE LYRICS:
[1] Lester Bangs takes credit for the lyrics of "Time Has Come Today," but Joey Ramon's brother, Mickey Leigh, deserves credit for the song's melody and arrangement. Leigh resurrected this lost Birdland demo in the early 2000s, about the same time he reunited Matty Quick and Dave Merrill to redux Birdland and give "Time Has Come Today" a proper rerecording in the studio.
[2] Captain Bligh: British Royal Navy Vice Admiral William Bligh is best remembered being in command of The Bounty during its infamous mutiny in 1789. Afterward, Bligh and his small band of supports, who were set adrift by the mutineers, survived a 6,700 km voyage to Timor.
